Mission
The OBFC Project is dedicated to uplifting, supporting, and empowering fathers and young boys. We create platforms for mentorship, leadership, and community engagement: spaces where fathers can grow, youth can thrive, and generations can connect. Through intentional programs, cultural events, and collective action, we strengthen the role of fathers as leaders in their families and communities while building resilience, responsibility, and unity in young boys, preparing the next generation of men to lead with purpose and integrity.

Our history
Founded in 2015 by Bilal Munir Rahim, Our Black Fathers Committee was created to challenge damaging narratives about Black fathers and establish culturally relevant spaces for mentorship, leadership development, and community connection. The work grew from lived experience, fatherhood, youth mentorship, and a commitment to helping boys and young men develop identity, responsibility, discipline, and purpose.
The OBFC Project's community work now includes structured rites-of-passage experiences, one-on-one and group mentorship, fatherhood conversations, mentor training, cultural and educational events, and partnerships with community organizations. Music and creative expression have also remained part of the brand's effort to counter negative stereotypes and deliver messages rooted in unity, resilience, healing, pride, and self-empowerment.

Our organization
Our Black Fathers Committee began in 2015 as a community-centered effort to restore, strengthen, and accurately represent the role of Black fathers. Today that charitable work continues as The OBFC Project, the registered trade name of Join the Race International, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Speaking engagements, music, and merchandise are offered separately by Our Black Fathers Committee LLC.

How we're governed
The OBFC Project is governed by the Board of Directors of Join the Race International. Directors hold voting authority and are responsible for protecting the mission, overseeing finances and compliance, establishing policy, and supervising executive leadership.
Day-to-day leadership is delegated to the Executive Director, who reports to the board. Operational directors support finance and media. Members of the Our Black Fathers Committee LLC team may support programs and events; that support does not make anyone a voting director.
- The nonprofit and the LLC keep separate bank accounts, records, contracts, and payment systems.
- Agreements between the nonprofit and the LLC are written and approved by disinterested directors.
- Anyone connected to both entities discloses that relationship annually.
